New crisis hits APC as faction expels loyalists of Senator Akume Legit.ng

Makurdi, Benue State – The crisis surfaced in the Benue State chapter of the ruling All Progressives (APC) Congress following member suspensions and counter-suspensions, The punch reports.

According to the report, two factions loyal to separate party leaders in the Gboko local government area criticized each other for the expulsion and suspension orders.

It has been established that two loyalists of Senator George Akume, state party leader and minister for special functions and intergovernmental affairs Becky Orpin, and Abua Yaji were expelled on Wednesday, June 9.

The expulsion was announced in a statement issued by Terfa Ahambe, APC public relations manager at Gboko LGA.

Ahambe revealed that the duo were kicked out of the party for abusing the APC constitution, destabilizing party organs and organizing the party crisis.

However, the state party leadership on Thursday 10 June, in a rapid response to development, issued a counter statement describing the action of Ahambe’s faction as embarrassing, Sun News added.

James Ornguga, the acting secretary of state for publicity, said party members who claim to have kicked out legitimate members have long been suspended from APC.

He explained that the party made the decision after being found guilty of romance with other political parties.

APC publishes the congress calendar

Earlier, APC rolled out the schedule for the conduct of its congresses from neighborhood to zonal levels amid speculation about the possible lengthening of the mandate of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).

The calendar was silent on the national party convention. Neighborhood congresses would be held on July 10, while local government congresses are set for August 6.

He also added that the state congress would be held on September 3 and the zone congress on September 30.
